Early-Career Mentorship
ISWE’s early-career mentorship programme has been developed to support early-career economists (PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and those with fewer than 5 years of work experience as an economist) to make valuable connections.

– Diane Sheehy (former ISWE Mentee)
The annual ISWE early-career mentorship programme provides a platform to connect mentors and mentees, providing support to ensure you get the most out of mentoring.
– Niall Conroy (former ISWE Mentor)

The ISWE Early-Career Mentorship Programme runs annually for a nine-month period. There is a minimum expectation that mentors and mentees meet every six weeks for at least one hour (which can be in-person or online).

– Chi Train (former ISWE mentee)
To apply, mentees must satisfy at least one of the following categories:
1) Fewer than 8 years work experience, currently working in Ireland
2) A registered student on a PhD programme in an Irish institution
3) Up to 5 years since completing the PhD, currently working in Ireland
To apply, mentors must be economists working in the public or private sector (incl. academia) on the island of Ireland, of any gender. Mentors should be more advanced in their career than mentees, but do not need to hold a PhD.
Both mentors and mentees are asked to attend a short training session and networking event in February 2027. This will be a hybrid event hosted by the Central Bank of Ireland in Dublin, we strongly encourage in-person attendance.
