Mid-Career Mentorship

ISWE is piloting a new mid-career mentorship programme in collaboration with the Royal Economic Society Women’s Committee between November 2025 and January 2027.

Designed to help mid-career women in academia progress to Professor (Full Professor in UK, and “Professor in/of” in Ireland, or equivalent), this initiative directly addresses the persistent gender gap at the professorial level, as highlighted in the Women in Academic Economics Report 2024, which revealed slower progress for women at senior ranks compared to earlier career stages.

Mentee applications for this pilot programme closed in September 2025. Applicants must be working in an Irish or UK University, be a member of the Irish Economic Association or the Royal Economic Society, identify as a woman, and have clear plans to apply for Professorship in the next 2-5 years.

Evaluation of the pilot programme is ongoing.
