Mid Career Mentoring

ISWE are proud to announce the launch of a new mid career mentoring programme in collaboration with the Royal Economic Society Women’s Committee.

The programme is designed to help mid-career women in academia progress to Professor (Full Professor in UK, and “Professor in/of” in Ireland, or equivalent). This initiative directly addresses the persistent gender gap at the professorial level, as highlighted in the Women in Academic Economics Report 2024, which revealed slower progress for women at senior ranks compared to earlier career stages.

Mentee applications are now open for this pilot programme starting in early November. Applicants must be working in an Irish or UK University, be a member of the Irish Economic Association or the Royal Economic Society, identify as a woman, and have clear plans to apply for Professorship in the next 2-5 years.

Early Career Mentoring

ISWE’s early career mentoring programme has been developed to support early career economists (PhD students and those working 5 years or fewer) to make valuable connections. The annual ISWE early career mentoring programme provides a platform to connect mentors and mentees, providing support to ensure you get the most out of mentoring.

The ISWE Early Career Mentoring Programme runs annually for a nine-month period, and there is a minimum expectation that mentors and mentees will meet every six weeks for at least one hour (which can be in-person or online).
